PowWow / Berlin Seminar 2004

Dear Fulbrighters,

in celebration of the 50th Berlin Seminar, the Fulbright Alumni e.V. and the Fulbright Commission have joined together in organizing a conference for current American grantees and Alumni. The weekend events (19-21 March) will run under the title of "Redefining a Continent: the EU Enlargement". This weekend portion of the Berlin Seminar can be enjoyed as a "stand alone" event as well.

The European Union is now preparing for its biggest enlargement ever in terms of scope and diversity: the number of candidates, the increase in geographical area and population, and the wealth of different histories and cultures, are unprecedented in the history of the EU. Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, the Slovak Republic, and Slovenia are set to join on 1st May 2004.

What will this mean for the European Identity? How might Europe's role in the world change? What visions of Europe do the new member-countries have?

As a pre-conference of the 50th anniversary of the German-American Fulbright Program Berlin Week, the Fulbright Commission and the Fulbright Alumni Association are working together to stage a discourse on current issues of the EU Enlargement.

Current Grantees as well as Alumni who are willing and able to stay in Berlin during the following weekdays (22-25 March), will continue the conference with the title "Where Continents Meet". We look forward to seeing you at what promises to be a very stimulating event. See you in Berlin!
